Nancy Wilson was born 20th February 1937 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Olden Wilson, a ironworker, as well as Lillian Ryan (a former housemaid). Nancy Wilson was the only child of six. Cannonball suggested that she relocate into New York and go to The Big Town to further her career. Within one month, she got a job singing at The Blue Morocco Night Club on Boston Road in The Bronx which was where her agent was introduced to her voice and agreed to sign her. A contract was formalized with Capitol Records in 1960. In 1960, she released her first single. Guess whom I am seeing in the present. Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson albums within two years. Under the direction of Cannonball Adderley Wilson's leadership, Wilson started focusing on R&B but soon shifted to jazz and torch music. Nancy Wilson, Cannonball Adderley and their 1962 collaboration made her a star. She had her breakthrough smash Tell Me the Truth by 1963. The following year, she received an invitation to perform in New York's Coconut Grove, the most prestigious club in America.
